SST Refereeing Clinic:

Refereeing the SST game can be undertaken by 1 or 2 referees or both together.

The two main differences in playing touch footy and SuperStar touch footy is the 2 person touch rule, the figure 8 play the ball. The attacking team is also allowed to kick the ball on the 5th play.

In Touch Football a player’s progress is halted by a single touch from a defending player. In SuperStar Touch a player can continue running after the first touch and is not required to stop until touched by a second player in the defending team.

The ‘2 Person Touch Rule’ provides players with many more options in attack.

SuperStar Touch uses the ‘2 Person Touch Rule’ to provide opportunities for all players to be creative. This, in turn, encourages players in the attacking team to talk to each other. In many Rugby League games you see “half chances” created and exploited by enthusiastic support play.

The ‘2 Person Touch Rule’ creates the same conditions in SuperStar Touch. Just as important is the talk between players in the defending team. If the defending team fails to communicate effectively they will find it difficult to contain the attacking team.

The ‘2 Person Touch Rule’ can generate many passing phases and expansive ball movement. Explosive support play and desperate defensive efforts help develop high fitness levels.
